BACC's Annual Fund 2021

Thank you for visiting our 2021 Annual Fund page!

2021 has been a transformative year for BACC. This year, we’ve focused efforts on building community partnerships, gaining a deeper understanding of our audience’s collections care needs, centering cultural equity, and increasing contributions. We’ve worked on projects for individuals, communities, and organizations—with diverse partnerships including  the University of California at Irvine’s Institute of California Art, the Centro Cultural de la Raza, and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.

For our 2021 Annual Fund Campaign we’re featuring our Digital Imaging Suite. BACC provides a variety of conservation and preservation services, but one of the areas that sets us apart is our expertise in the technical examination of artwork. Using specialized equipment to analyze artwork, conservators can assess damage and view previous conservation efforts, as well as investigate the materials and techniques used by the artist --often looking into and through an artwork to see what is not visible to the naked eye. Over the years we’ve invested in new technologies for our Digital Imaging Suite to see beyond the surface of the works including X-ray Fluorescence, Ultraviolet Photography, and Infrared Reflectography. Access to these technologies has allowed BACC to thoroughly discover and study significant hidden compositions and  identify pigments to help give context to an artist’s techniques. By using  these techniques and digitally documenting the findings, BACC is able to expand the body of knowledge about specific artists, materials, and techniques to help curators, scholars, owners, and conservation scientists understand more about the artwork's story and preserve it for future generations.

Your support of the 2021 Annual Fund Campaign will ensure that BACC’s Digital Imaging Suite is able to expand its capacity to provide this crucial research and cultural knowledge. As we close out 2021, we hope you’ll make a contribution to BACC in support of our Digital Imaging Suite.
