Children in the Philippines who live in extreme poverty lack access to quality healthcare. They are often denied assistance and are unable to afford necessities to improve their quality of life.
Jea is a 16-month-old baby girl who has club foot, hydrocephalus, and spina bifida. Her mother used to work as a Brand Ambassador and a checker for a company, however, after having the baby, the doctor recommended that she stay at home to take care of her baby and to allow her c-section to heal. She still cannot work because she has no one to watch her.
Her father works as a picker who earns around $157, which is the only source of income they have since Jea’s mother lost her job. This may seem big but their rent is actually more than 50% of this income and they are struggling to support their basic needs, more so Jea’s necessities.
With their limited income, Jea’s parents are unable to afford formula, diapers, and other basic necessities for their child. They came to Maya’s hope to ask for help.
