AYUDA 2026 Campo Amigo Program

I am excited to share that, this summer, I will be volunteering with American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad, Inc. (AYUDA) in the Dominican Republic. 

Hi! I’m Luana and I am a sophomore in high school. AYUDA is a volunteer organization dedicated to teaching and empowering families and youth about diabetes and how to manage it. Many people in the Dominican Republic don't have much access to diabetes materials and education. My role in this is to be a leader of social change and teach families and children about their diabetes. Although I do not live with diabetes, I believe no one should feel alone in managing their health, and really want to help create a stronger community. AYUDA works with AAV(Aprendiendo a Vivir) their partner organization in the Dominican Republic. This summer I will be spending about 3 weeks in the Dominican Republic to plan projects and workshops that will support youth who live with diabetes and their families. Leading up to this summer, I will prepare by practicing Spanish, learning more about diabetes, and the communities in the DR. We want to make sure no one feels alone or overwhelmed. This is my first year volunteering and I am so excited for this opportunity and experience. To make this all possible we need to raise 7,000 dollars.
