Ignite the light in Damascus through culture and art.

Spotlight Team International Art proudly launches Project Aura in Damascus — a cultural and developmental initiative named after the Aramaic word for “light” or “radiance.” The project aims to revive Syria’s cultural memory through art, education, and community engagement by creating a sustainable space where identity, heritage, and creative exploration converge.

Aura focuses on rediscovering the overlooked and forgotten aspects of Syria’s artistic and intellectual heritage and reintroducing them as vital components of the national cultural fabric — especially in light of the destruction and fragmentation caused by years of conflict.
Through artistic and cultural workshops, as well as educational and participatory activities led by local artists, musicians, and educators, the project seeks to transform creative expression into a tool for both personal and social empowerment.

The project launches in Damascus with a tribute to one of the pioneers of Syria’s modern cultural renaissance: Fakhri al-Baroudi, a visionary who championed art as a means of building awareness and national belonging from the early 20th century.

At its heart, Aura is also a firm commitment to supporting Syria’s cultural, religious, and linguistic minorities, and acknowledging their vital role in shaping a shared national identity. Spotlight Team draws inspiration from its long-standing collaboration with the United Nations Office on Minority Issues, advocating for the empowerment of marginalized communities — whether in refugee camps across the Middle East or asylum centers in Europe.

Aura will serve as an open platform in Damascus for these communities to reclaim their cultural presence, express themselves, and engage in meaningful creation.

This project forms part of Spotlight Team International Art’s global mission to support communities in conflict zones. The organization has previously launched similar initiatives in Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, Germany, and the Netherlands, in partnership with international bodies, to build spaces for healing, artistic expression, and transformative change.

«سَنُحييها وإن دُثرت» — فخري البارودي
أشعل النور في دمشق عبر الثقافة والفن.

تطلق Spotlight Team International Art مشروع "أورَا" في دمشق — مبادرة ثقافية وتنموية تحمل اسمها من اللغة الآرامية، حيث تعني "النور" أو "الضياء". يهدف المشروع إلى إعادة إحياء الذاكرة الثقافية السورية، من خلال الفن، التعليم، والمشاركة المجتمعية، وخلق فضاء مستدام تلتقي فيه الفنون بالهوية، الذاكرة، والبحث.

يركّز "أورَا" على الجوانب المهمّشة والمنسيّة من التراث الفني والفكري السوري، ويسعى إلى إعادة تقديمها كجزء حيوي من النسيج الثقافي السوري، في ظل ما خلفته سنوات الحرب والنزاع من تدمير وتهميش.
من خلال ورش فنية وثقافية، أنشطة تعليمية وتفاعلية، يعمل المشروع على تمكين الفنانين والموسيقيين والمربين المحليين، ليكون الإبداع الفني أداة للشفاء الفردي والاجتماعي.

انطلاقة المشروع ستكون من دمشق، وفاءً لذكرى أحد أبرز رموز النهضة الثقافية في سوريا، الفنان والناشط الوطني فخري البارودي، الذي نادى منذ مطلع القرن العشرين باستخدام الفن لبناء الوعي، وتعزيز الانتماء، وتشكيل هوية وطنية جامعة.
وتم تاجيل الانطلاقة والتي كانت مقررة في تاريخ 02/05/2025 بسبب الاحداث المؤسفة التي حدثت في سوريا 

في جوهر هذا المشروع، التزامٌ راسخ بدعم الأقليات الثقافية، الدينية، واللغوية في سوريا، وإبراز دورها الجوهري في صياغة المشهد الثقافي السوري.
تستلهم Spotlight Team هذا النهج من شراكتها الطويلة مع قسم الأقليات في الأمم المتحدة، حيث تسعى إلى تعزيز صوت المجتمعات المهمّشة، سواء في مخيمات اللجوء أو في مدن النزاع.

"أورَا" سيكون منصة حيّة ومفتوحة لهذه المجتمعات في قلب دمشق، لتستعيد حضورها، وتعبّر عن ذواتها، وتشارك في صياغة مشهد ثقافي معاصر نابض بالهوية والتعدد والانفتاح.

يأتي هذا المشروع كجزء من التزام Spotlight Team International Art المستمر بدعم المجتمعات المتأثرة بالنزاعات حول العالم.
فقد أطلقت المؤسسة سابقًا مبادرات مشابهة في غزة، لبنان، السودان، ألمانيا، وهولندا، بالتعاون مع شركاء دوليين، لبناء فضاءات للتعافي، التعبير الفني، والتغيير الإيجابي.
