For 50 years, Audium has brought sound education to Bay Area youth. Thanks to a generous donor, your gift to Audium goes further. Help us hit $10,000 to unlock this matching grant, and support our mission to teach students industry-standard tools, pay fair wages to teaching artists, and help young creators to find their place in the Bay Area arts community.


The Spatial Sound in Schools program is offered for free to public high schools in partnership with SFUSD and OUSD. Currently, this program is in three Bay Area high schools. Students spend a semester composing original immersive audio compositions with professional teaching artists, utilizing Audium's in-class audio kits and come to 2-3 mixing sessions at our 176-speaker theater. For most youth, it's their first time working in a professional sound environment- culminating in a performance for friends and family at Audium that builds confidence and creates visibility they rarely experience.


Your donations help expand Audium as a canvas on which artists can stretch the boundaries of technology and creativity. 


  • If we reach our $5k goal, Audium can reach one more public school this year, expanding our program reach from three schools, to four.

  • If we reach our $10k goal, it will in addition enable us to add 1-2 collaborative mixing/mentorship sessions with Audium residency alumni.  The Sound in Schools curriculum currently has the capacity to facilitate 5 sessions. Fully funding our $10k goal will enable us to facilitate 6-7 sessions.


Each mentorship session with an Audium artist allows for student insight into what a spatial composer's mindset can be like- beyond the technical. This one-on-one time gives students guidance on how to express emotion through sound and space, as well as guides the students’ composition process. Audium residency alumni share their personal artistic journeys, demonstrating what it looks like to make a living as a spatial sound composer.
