Attorney on the Move is a pro bono legal services project 100% funded by individuals and families like you.

As a result of your support since 2015, hundreds of clients across the United States have been able to receive free legal help. Asylum clients have obtained bonds to be released from immigrant detention—as well as won asylum and the right to remain in the United States.

The project also has roots in community lawyering to scale these results—including creating a pro bono program for other lawyers at the border to be able to represent more asylees at no cost.

The Attorney on the Move project is currently based in the Bronx, New York City. Your support will allow the project to be able to provide services to the immigrant community in the largest city in the United States—as well as provide collaboration with other organizations and potential clients throughout the country.

This year, the Attorney on the Move project will:

  • Continue to directly represent asylum seekers at the trial and appeal levels—with a priority on folks who are currently living in the Bronx so there is an attorney closer.

  • Partner with past colleagues on the U.S./Mexican border: when asylum seekers initially detained at the border have been released to family in the greater NYC area for the remainder of their asylum proceedings—I will help them try to secure counsel/resources (if I am unable to represent them directly myself).

  • Focus on longer-term community lawyering in the Bronx: collaborating w/grassroots groups over the long haul to help build more scalable capacity in the borough—by helping to develop pro bono programs (similar to what I did in El Paso)—and other needs to be determined.

  • More op-eds to elevate further awareness of what is going on the ground/the system as a whole.

  • ...and more (including future work at other sites domestically/internationally a little farther down the road)

All of the above work will continue to be done on a 100% pro bono basis. This all wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of friends and donors like you.

You can become more involved with the cause by joining our current group of Partners in Resistance—a community who supports this critical legal/organizing work by chipping in on a monthly basis.

By joining us either one-time or monthly, we'd love to have you—thank you for all of your support!
