Community Power through Culture and Action.
Hello! Thank you for visiting our fundraising appeal.
We are fundraising to support the Center for Social and Economic Justice — a community anchor at 16th and Mission where workers, artists, and grassroots organizations come together to build power!
Who We Are
The Alliance for Social and Economic Justice (ASEJ) is a consortium of grassroots organizations, cultural workers, and community leaders strengthening the capacity, voice, and community power of low-wage workers, immigrant workers, and unwaged caregivers.
ASEJ administers the Center for Social and Economic Justice (CSEJ), fostering a welcoming space where a multigenerational and diverse community can come together through culturally competent, linguistically responsive, and trauma-informed approaches to organize, learn, and build collective power.
Meet some of the organizations that make up the alliance:
- Nuevo Sol Day Labor and Domestic Worker Center
- San Francisco Living Wage Coalition
- CISPES (Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador)
- BienStar Consulting / Coro Nueva Era
- Kaje LLC
- Nuevo Sol Day Labor and Domestic Worker Center, a membership-led organization of day laborers and domestic workers.
Adopt-A-Corner Program, Nuevo Sol's project brings together volunteers who organize observers at strategic locations across the Bay Area in order to defend day laborers and domestic workers from ICE abductions.
-Global Women’s Strike, which campaigns for recognition and payment for the unwaged work of caregivers; including for a guaranteed care income.
- The San Francisco Living Wage Coalition, a grassroots movement of low-wage workers and their allies organizing for economic justice.
- The Bay Area Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) and Global Exchange, organizations that advocate for U.S. foreign and trade policies that respect self-determination in Latin America, as well as just U.S. immigration policies.
- Poor Magazine, a poor and indigenous people-led media, education, and art organization.
The Center provides meeting and event space, and other support, to member organizations such as Coro Nueva Era or Bienstar, Community Liberation Programs, SF Greens, Worker's Voice, SF Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines, Task Force on the Americas, fmln NorCal, and SF Green Party.
We are proud to be made up of organizations fighting for social and economic justice. Our goal is to strengthen campaigns and build collective political power through the shared space and infrastructure we provide, while supporting one another’s struggles.
What We Do
At the Center for Social and Economic Justice, ASEJ and its member organizations activate this shared space through:
- Community organizing through cultural work, including music, art, storytelling, and community education that helps people heal, build bridges, and take collective action
- Know-Your-Rights education, resources, and political discussion to protect immigrant families and analyze ways to challenge the deportation system
- Workshops on defending workers’ rights, particularly the right to organize a union
- Grassroots organizing, coalition-building, and leadership development, including with sex workers and others in the informal sector
- Events that bring together women in ASEJ to collectively voice the changes we need
- Co-producing the yearly Social & Economic Justice Film and Music & Arts Festival
Your donation not only helps sustain a community anchor — it supports the shared infrastructure that strengthens organizing, cultural programming, and leadership development across our network.
