Goal
Support the Appalachian Herb Collective: A Herbal Re-Leaf for Communities Impacted by Hurricane Helene
The Appalachian Herb Collective (AHC) was born from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, which tore through our beloved communities in Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee, leaving countless families displaced and in need of immediate relief. In the aftermath of this catastrophic event, local herbalists, small business owners, and grassroots organizers came together to form a network of support—a network designed to offer healing, comfort, and tangible aid to our neighbors who have lost so much.
The AHC’s Mission: Healing through Herbal Mutual Aid
We are a group of dedicated local herbalists offering free herbal medicine, wellness services, and mutual aid resources to individuals and families impacted by the hurricane. We are currently operating herbal hubs in Madison, Buncombe, and Yancey counties in North Carolina, as well as Unicoi County, Tennessee, and we are working tirelessly to expand our reach into additional affected areas.
Our grassroots efforts aim to help the most vulnerable populations by providing free access to herbal medicine and wellness care, with a focus on supporting the mental, physical, and emotional health of our community members during this challenging time.
Your Support Can Make a Direct Impact
With your help, we can continue to grow this vital work. Donations will go directly to:
- Building a storage unit to receive, organize, and distribute herbal supplies.
- Supporting local hubs with rent and utility costs so that these free services can remain available.
- Refilling herbal containers and supplies to ensure that we have what’s needed to serve the community.
- Tracking donations All disbursements are made collectively, based on a hierarchy of needs, to ensure the greatest impact.
The Situation Is Urgent
While some areas have started to recover, many communities in Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina still face dire conditions. Months after the storm, families remain without electricity, clean water, or road access. With winter approaching, the urgency of providing physical, emotional, and herbal support is more critical than ever.
Even in more urban areas, homes, businesses, and livelihoods have been destroyed. The Appalachian Herb Collective has been instrumental in hosting free herbal clinics, supporting rural outreach medics, and collaborating with other mutual aid groups to address health issues related to the disaster, including grief, immune system support, respiratory care, pain relief, and skin health.
The Impact We’ve Had So Far:
- 15+ Free Herbal Clinics held across Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee
- 10,000+ Herbal Products distributed to local residents in need
- Ongoing Community Support through pop-up events, mutual aid collaboration, and outreach
Together, We Can Do More
We are asking for your help to ensure that we can continue providing this essential aid. Your donation—whether small or large—can provide life-changing support to those in need. Every dollar goes directly into supporting the collective effort of herbalists, community healers, and volunteers who are on the ground, working tirelessly to aid their neighbors.
We are committed to transparency, accountability, and serving those most affected by this crisis. Join us in bringing healing and hope to the communities that need it most.
While we are in the process of setting up our 5013(c), we are grateful to our nonprofit partners Sage Mountain and Veteran's Healing Farm for their support during this time.
