Goal
Every week, someone walks into the Tacoma Tool Library with a challenge and a question: “Do you think I can fix this?” Our answer is always yes — and we hand them the tools to prove it.
Through volunteering as a Tool Librarian, Jeremy has seen that spirit in action many times. His favorite moment came when a local nonprofit owner came in to borrow tools for a community garden event. “Without the tool library,” Jeremy recalls, “they would have had to spend a large amount of money on all the tools they needed. Instead, they were able to come chat with us, browse the library for what they needed, and walk out with enough tools for the job.”
Stories like this happen every day — moments where access to shared tools makes projects possible, saves money, and strengthens our community.
This year, the Tacoma Tool Library has continued to grow and thrive:
* Over 1,000 tools are loaned out each month
* More than 1,200 active members, up from 744 last year
* Hundreds of neighbors joined Fix-it Nights, Make-it Sew, and other free hands-on programs and workshops
In February, we celebrated our return to our forever home on the 2nd floor of the Tacoma Public Library Main Branch! The new 2,200-square-foot space was designed for us — complete with expanded tool storage, a dedicated maintenance room, and easy roll-up access. All our programs are finally under one roof again, with access to shared spaces for programs, events, and community gatherings. There is also a special space to honor you!
The Donor Sawblade Wall Collage has become one of our favorite parts of the new space — a daily reminder of the generosity and community spirit from donors like you that power the Tool Library. There’s still room to join! A gift of $100 or more adds your name to the wall and keeps the work (and the tools) moving forward.
But more than anything, your donation directly supports our programs and activities which include:
* Reduced-cost memberships for neighbors who need them
* Supplies for our weekly (and very popular) Fix-it Nights and Make-it Sew programs
* Ongoing tool maintenance, training, and operational sustainability
Please consider donating today to help us continue providing tools, training, and community connection that make Tacoma stronger.
