Angels of Grace
One in four...that is the estimated number of pregnancies affected with loss in the first trimester. Approximately two babies every week are born still in Nova Scotia each year. And as many as one child a day dies in our region. We ALL know someone who has suffered the loss of a child, even if we aren't aware of it.
Gardens of Grace began after the sudden death of three year old Grace, and her twin, who was lost at 17 weeks gestation. Grace's mom, Paula, was shocked to discover what taboos and lack of supports and services surround infant and child loss. And then she set about to change it.
We are actively working to compile a comprehensive assessment of what services do exist in Nova Scotia. We are creating memory packages that will be available to families who lose a baby of any gestational age. Two events are scheduled to be hosed annually to validate to parents that their children WERE, including the International Wave of Light on Oct 15, and the Lights of Love Christmas Carol Service, held the first Friday of December. The Gardens of Grace website is a great resource for families suffering through loss. We are actively working with SANDS(Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) to arrange licensing agreements for their support literature. And our largest undertaking, the establishment of gardens, both to offer solace for the families, and to combat the silence that surrounds loss.
We want Gardens of Grace to reach the lives of families affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant and child loss throughout the Maritime provinces. Your gift is a crucial aspect of achieving these goals, and fulfilling our Mission to offer improved support, compassion, loving kindness, and hope to families during their darkest hours.
A recurring gift as small as $5.00 per month will go a long way to creating a successful support system for moms and dads learning to live a different reality, one that they will have to learn to navigate the rest of their lives. And while a recurring gift offers the stability Gardens of Grace needs to achieve our goals, we also gladly welcome any other option, such as an annual or semi-annual gift, or a single contribution.
If you can't give, but still want to support Gardens of Grace, please share us with your friends, family members and co-workers for both gift and volunteer contributions. With more people aware of the needs surrounding miscarriage, stillbirth, infant and child loss, we will be one step closer to reaching our goal.
The team at Gardens of Grace thank you for your support!
