Goal
Andean Bear Conservation Project
Our commitment to protect the vulnerable species of the Andean region, especially our Andean bear, has a lot to do with the rural communities that live in bear territory.
Empowering communities to coexist in a sustainable way with the environment, as well as promoting a friendly social vision are key actions for the survival of the species.
That is why our efforts are addressed according to three key objectives, such as 1. Supporting and guiding communities on the sustainable management of livestock, which is their main source of income and the main cause of bear-man conflict in the Venezuelan paramos; 2. Control of introduced species such as feral dogs, one of the main causes of decline of wild species; and 3. The study of the habitat use of the bear, which helps us define proposals for planning, management and territorial ordering.
With your contribution you are supporting a pioneering project in Venezuela that has managed to generate concrete results from the rehabilitation and release of specimens in wildlife as well as support to rural communities in their process of adaptation to sustainable progress.
In the Merida mountain range specifically in the Merida Paramos, there are 84 communities that must be served and sensitized regarding sustainable development. Covering all these communities is a titanic task but not impossible. However, it is a necessary task that will allow us to contribute to ensuring that the Andean bear is preserved for the benefit of the environment and the enjoyment of future generations of this emblematic species.
This project has an annual cost of 7000 USD and an estimated time of 5 years to be able to generate measurable results in the future. If you are an animal lover and want to support to protect them in wildlife, this is the time to make a difference, help us to move forward, together we can do it.
