Additional, third, or middle genders were celebrated members of indigenous groups, now they experience a disproportionate burden of adverse effects throughout the life course. Transgender and Gender Non-conforming (GNC) people face a system that has already dismissed them with indifference, hate, white supremacy, and violence. When coupled with cultural and racial identity, this only creates a more difficult path for those seeking care to achieve their goals.
How do you navigate a system that has already chosen not to serve you?
HI SIS is dedicated to serving our community by helping people achieve their goals related to gender dysphoria, affirming care, and policies related to gender transitioning.
In the last year HI SIS has served over 40 individuals seeking gender affirming care, the majority of which paid no more than $50. 50% of these people identified as Native Hawaii or Asian/Pacific Islander. We are hoping to expand our programs to reach 75 people with various services.
