Help Amir Survive Diabetes & Persecution – Urgent Dialysis Appeal

Amir (an alias for safety) is a young gay man trapped in Yemen, fighting life‑threatening diabetes while dodging homophobia, extremist violence, and now acute kidney failure. Doctors say he needs dialysis this week or he will die. Deserted by family, jobless, and living in one of the world’s harshest conflict zones, he has no safety net—except us.

Why Amir Needs Help Right Now

  • Kidney failure: A brutal cholera infection dehydrated him, pushing his diabetes over the edge. Dialysis cannot wait.

  • Passport frozen: His father appears on a security blacklist, blocking Amir’s exit visa.

  • Family search: We are tracing relatives now living in the UK in hopes they will sponsor an emergency visa—even if they still reject his sexuality.

  • No income, no insurance: War has shuttered most NGOs; the restaurant jobs and social‑work posts Amir once held are gone.

Amir’s Journey — Strength in the Face of Rejection

  • 2009 – 2013: Forced from his home for being gay, Amir moved 300 km to Taʼizz, finished high school, and supported himself washing dishes.

  • 2014 – 2016: Hired by an American health‑services NGO—until the Houthi takeover and civil war drove most internationals out. Savings spent on a failed escape attempt.

  • 2017 – 2019: Juggled two local jobs, then served as a child‑protection social worker until funding dried up. Diabetes spiralled; he slipped into a coma and temporarily lost use of his left leg.

  • 2021 – Today: Supported by small donor stipends through SUN’s adoption‑program, Amir pays rent, buys insulin, and clings to hope. But SUN’s emergency fund is exhausted, and the recent cholera‑triggered kidney failure has turned a chronic crisis into a countdown.
