I am the only person guiding my family as they do not have the guardianship of their father. My eldest is 21 years old and the youngest is six. Growing up in this modern world of patriarchy my children still face a lot of criticism and hatred. As the only breadwinner in the family, I have a lot of pressure to feed them and care for their well-being. My 20 year old daughter is also blind and we have no one but ourselves to care for us. I used to sell goods in the market but due to my ailment that business is shut down. Life is precarious for us now, and feeding a family of nine is difficult. We have a small mudhouse, which has been severely damaged due to rain and storms. I feel like I am failing my duty as a mother. My blind daughter needs proper healthcare but we are economically inferior. The constant support from my family has held me strong over the years. Africa in Me is like a beam of light to my dark shabby life. Their support is a hope to my mundane life. We have been given proper food, clothing and some essential medicines.
