Goal
Puerto Rico, one of the most densely populated islands in the world, has always struggled with affordable and reliable access to energy. As climate change becomes a larger worldwide threat, Puerto Rico is one of the first places to feel the detrimental effects. Hurricanes and other natural disasters, such as Hurricane Maria in 2017 and the 2020 earthquakes, are increasing in likelihood, causing great danger to the island. Moreover, Puerto Rico’s energy production is almost entirely based on imported fossil fuels. This makes the electrical cost much higher than the mainland U.S. In combination with insufficient funding, governmental problems, and a struggling economy, the probability of betterment is diminishing.
The need to provide cheap, reliable and local electricity is of utmost importance. That is where Let’s Share the Sun and The Adirondack Solar Alliance in partnership with Casa Pueblo comes in!
Let's Share the Sun is responsible for developing, installing, and distributing solar in communities including Haiti, Honduras, and Puerto Rico. It collaborates with Casa Pueblo, an organization serving the community of Adjuntas, Puerto Rico. Casa Pueblo has installed over 100 solar systems on residential homes, while simultaneously creating the first community-owned solar microgrid. Let's Share the Sun and Casa Pueblo both utilize local materials and businesses to stimulate the economy and workforce in their respective communities.

The Opportunity:
Last April, The Adirondack Solar Alliance was successful on completing an installation on a medical clinic in Adjuntas. This clinic had a high demand for consistent electricity for refrigerating medications, charging wheelchairs, operating assisted breathing devices, and running other medical equipment. The solar has greatly helped the clinic.
Your Donation Will Support:
This year, ASA will be raising money to complete an installation on a Hospice Center in the same town of Adjuntas. The hospice center regularly has power outages, so the solar will make a huge difference for the well being of those that stay there.
