Ada 2.6 Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on charities across the UK, with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of fundraising income.

In response, the organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help to save the UK’s charities – The 2.6 Challenge!

What is The 2.6 Challenge?

The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26th April – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event.

We’re asking you to take part in an activity of your choice based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise or donate to support Ada.

All you need to do to take part is think of a way to raise money, you can donate here or send this link to your friends and family to sponsor you. Make sure they mention you in the comment and we'll send our highest earners a pack of Ada swag when we get back into the college!

People of all ages are taking on The 2.6 Challenge with a host of activities – from walking, running or cycling 2.6 miles, juggling for 2.6 minutes! This is for Ada so you might want to make it digital! A virtual coders meetup with 26 friends?  What can you make with 26 lines of code? Can you create 26 gifs? The ideas and options are endless!

The only requirement is that you must follow Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing. Most people are taking part from Sunday 26 April but you can do your activity whenever is most convenient for you.

Ada is a registered charity; we are responding to our students' extra needs every day and still doing the outreach to underserved communities that makes Ada such a vital part of increasing diversity in the tech sector. In the months to come Ada will play a major part in retraining those who have been impacted or made unemployed by Covid-19. Our support fund will help allow us to play this part as well as continue to support our students who need extra help to cope during lockdown.

Thank you for your help and we can't wait to see what you come up with!

About Ada

We need your support to reach our ambition of supporting thousands of young people from hardest-to-reach areas to develop the critical digital skills they need to succeed in life.

To ensure Ada is able to deliver an industry-led curriculum with additional support for each student, including our work-readiness curriculum, student mentors, careers advice and guidance, cutting-edge equipment, and the very best access to future employers, we need additional funding from like-minded people and organisations that see this as one of the biggest issues facing the UK today.

Additional funding also means that we will continue to find the hardest-to-reach students: young people from low-income households, girls who have a passion for technology but are unsure where to go next, and students who have the potential and determination, but, without our support, would slip through the net and leave education aged 16.

What we do here goes beyond standard educational institutions and that means it costs more. Not only are we offering education in cutting edge technology, which means equipment costs and increased teacher costs because we recruit teachers with industry experience, we are also doing so with unprecedented levels of industry engagement and reaching students who often need significant pastoral and enhanced teaching support.
