Objective:
The Norf Wall Fest is a large-scale multimedia arts festival celebrating North Nashville by reflecting its ideals through the creative efforts of both visual and performing artists. Norf Wall Fest creatively alters communal landscapes in order to reflect the greater social consciousness.
About:
Jamal Jenkins, known artistically as Woke3, is a melanated muralist and mixed -media artist from Norf Nashville. Woke3 has a special gift: he has the ability to make people feel connected, appreciated, respected, and completely submerged in his art works. His works are greatly praised by the community for being inclusive, diverse, and having the ability to show how no one thing is greater than another, expressing his heart for a more equitable world for all.
Woke3 founded Norf Wall Fest in 2015 by inviting local artists to create several murals that spoke to the social consciousness, history, beautification, and livelihood of the North Nashville neighborhood. The Norf Wall Fest is more than just murals. It is an inclusive festival for the celebration of cultural, visual, and performing arts by local artists. The project itself drives innovation by lending artists the space and materials needed to add an aesthetic flare to the neighborhoods of North Nashville while maximizing the capacity for social and cultural influence. It also seeks to make transparent the processes of street art so that those who are already involved in the arts or interested may gain access to the artists and communities who work in this medium. The Norf Art Collective was created out of the Norf Wall Fest in 2015.
The North Wall Fest 2015 was a celebration of the surrounding community - reflecting its ideals, potential and current events. Through the creative efforts of muralists, street artists, and painters the festival created large-scale murals related to pressing social issues such as materialism and race. The artists worked over a two-week span from September 28 to October 16, 2015. The festival took place on the final two days of the project. These artists painted within the north Nashville community: 18th Ave North and Herman Street, Buchanan Street and Dr DB Todd Jr Blvd
Our Goal:
1) The Legacy Mural
This year we center our focus on legacy. The Otey Center on Jefferson Street will be the main location for the 2021 Norf Wall Fest. The Legacy Mural will be constructed as a gift to the community, along with several other murals in the North Nashville Area.
2) Liberated Grounds
We are working to build a 200+ artist live/work communal space through land development and government, private, and local resources.
We are building formal participation in the long-term vision of Liberated Grounds.
Re-imagining Festivals:
The Norf Wall Fest Team has re -imagined concerts to keep all safe. The Norf Wall Festival will be one of Nashville’s very first Social Distanced Community Concerts of 2021. Our Covid -19 response team will be on site to ensure spatial distance is maintained
