BMNSM Aquariums and Marine Life Care
Over the past several years we have been expanding our exhibits to include a stronger emphasis on living mollusks. Many of our guests, especially young ones, connect best with live animals, rather than with words and diagrams. Our current aquariums feature a variety of Southwest Florida marine mollusks, that are collected under a state-issued special activities license. Marine mollusks have unique and varied needs, which require expert care. We have live animals in our exhibit tanks, “Mollusks on the Move” program animals, and several animals used for feeding and growth research. The research conducted has led to a refinement in care, as well as published articles on the behaviors of mollusks.
Your tax-deductible contribution to the National Shell Museum’s animal care will be used to help defray the costs of materials such as aquarium salt mix, filtration materials, food, water additives, water testing kits, and more.
