Goal
When we saw Lawrence cowering and injured in the shelter, we knew we had to bring him into the LAM fam. He was being picked on by other dogs in the shared kennel. They kept moving him, but as a docile guy he was always the target. He’s safe and sound now, in his own kennel, getting to spend his days splashing in the dog pool then napping on his cot. Volunteers come to walk him and love on him, and he just leans into them for love and affection. He’s hoping that soon a foster or forever home will be ready for him.
The situation in shelters right now is dire. Some shelters are putting 4, 5 or even 6 dogs in kennels together, trying to find space for as many as possible. Labs and More and rescues like us are pulling as many as we can, as often as we can. But we are also full. Compounding the problem is adoptions have slowed down, drop offs and owner turn ins have increased dramatically, and fosters are traveling or busy with back to school and return to office.
Dogs like Lawrence and all the others we pull from shelters are #whywerun in the annual #MuttRun. While our adoption donations cover about half of our costs with rescuing a dog like Lawrence (vet, alter, meds, food, etc), we rely on fundraising for the rest. Helping dogs like the Lawrence are part of #whywerun at the #MuttRun. Join us for a fun day at Road Runner Sports filled with a 5k dog walk, costume contest, door prizes, top fundraiser prizes, a beer garden sponsored by Mike Hess Brewing and so much more.
Labs and More Dog Rescue has rescued more than 13,000 dogs since our inception in 2011. Please register for our 5K Mutt Run Oct. 29th at Road Runner Sports, click to register; bit.ly/MuttRun22
We are a 100% volunteer run, non profit 501(c)3 organization.
