Contribute to 3i HoME

We’re going to start with the obvious.  Our nation is confronting an affordable housing crisis.  For low income people with disabilities the situation is dire.  In a report issued in October, 2022, The Urban Institute found that more than 18 million people with disabilities face significant barriers to stable and quality housing that is affordable, accessible, and inclusive of people's support needs. In Maine, the lack of affordable, accessible housing results in families living out of their vehicles at rest stops along the Maine Turnpike, occupying space for months at a time in local hospitals and or being placed in institutional settings well before their time.

That is why we founded 3i Housing of Maine ("3i HoME"), a Maine nonprofit corporation, and that is why I am asking for your support.

3i HoME’s vision is to create accessible, modern, and community-based affordable housing with self-directed care solutions. Our focus is to promote Independent living by employing Innovative technologies in an Integrated home and community based setting. After years of planning, along with our partner, Preservation of Affordable Housing, our plans have transitioned into the implementation phase.  We have settled on a building location in the vibrant Town Center District at The Downs in Scarborough Maine with plans to construct 51 individual 1, 2 and 3 bedroom totally accessible apartments in an environmentally conscious 4 story building. 

Our plans have received the endorsement of local stakeholders and have also been recognized by the federal government in the form of a grant for our smart assistive technology features that will enable people with disabilities to live full, rewarding and productive lives under their own terms.  We are convinced that our 3i HoME pilot will demonstrate the savings in health care costs that can be realized by increasing access to state-of-the-art technologies and home and community based self-directed services.
