Here's My Challenge to You!

Here's Why I'm Asking.

Twenty-two. A number that became a powerful symbol of veteran suicide and inspired the #Save22 mission. Behind that number are service members and veterans, families, friendships, and lives forever changed.

I proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps Infantry. One of the things I miss most about serving is the camaraderie—having someone beside you who understands, without needing everything explained.

Through Top Dogg K9 Foundation's VDOGS program, I was partnered with Sophie, my service dog.

Sophie provides the perfect distraction from the challenges I experience each day. Whether we're out in public or simply spending time together, she gives me something positive to focus on. Her companionship brings a sense of comfort and reassurance that's difficult to put into words. And in many ways, she reminds me of the camaraderie I experienced during my years in the Marine Corps.

With Sophie, I feel like I have a battle buddy beside me every step of the way.

Through Top Dogg, I've also found a veteran-centered community that reminds me of the brotherhood I experienced in the Marine Corps. And I'm far from the only veteran they've helped.

Top Dogg K9 Foundation reports more than 450 service-dog partnerships and over 2,500 military veteran families served. Through its VDOGS program, the foundation provides trained service dogs to eligible veterans at no cost.

This Veterans Day, Top Dogg K9 Foundation and 11Alive are working toward a $250,000 fundraising goal to help continue that mission.

I know firsthand what this organization can mean to a veteran. That's why I'm asking you to help give others the opportunity to experience that same kind of support.

We cannot bring back those we've lost, but we can honor them by showing up for those who are still here.
