2026 LA Medical Mission Trip

Support our team for our 2026 trip to San Mateo, Guatemala! Our team of over 85 volunteers will once again provide free medical care to those in need. Our team consists of medical professionals including general practitioners, surgeons, dentists, nurses, and a group of "Helpers," who assist as translators and support staff.

We dedicate their vacation time and fundraise to cover our travel, meals, and housing expenses while on this mission.

During our stay, we anticipate treating over a thousand of patients in clinic and dental care areas. Our surgical team plans on performing up to 130 surgeries, including cleft lip and palate repairs, gallbladder removals, tubal ligations, hysterectomies, and hernia surgeries. Additionally, our outreach team will visit a nearby village to provide care to those unable to travel to the hospital.

Some of the patients travel 5+ hours to get surgeries they otherwise may not get. Our patient’s age ranges from pediatrics to geriatrics. Some of the patients have endured years of discomfort / pain, and have entrusted us to help them receive the surgical procedure needed to feel and get better. These patients are unable to work because of their hernias, or pain from gallstones, or have a mass or cyst that affects their daily activities. These surgeries that were able to provide not only makes a difference to them physically but to their livelihood. 

I will be in the post anesthesia care unit (PACU) / recovery room, after the patients have had their surgeries. Helping people in need is one of the reasons I am a nurse. I am honored to make this my 4th year with Helps Organization. It has been not just rewarding to serve the people of Guatemala but also humbling.  To be part of a medical missions trip working alongside compassionate, hard working, brilliant team of volunteers who have the same heart and mission, to help those in need, is the connection and unity that ignites goodness, love, and empathy.
