This year, we expanded our newsroom, welcomed talented new faces, and brought back old friends our audience knows and trusts.

That growth has meant more original reporting, ambitious investigations, and independent programming – including the return of Harrison Faulkner’s Ratio’d.

We broke the tightly controlled story of the Tumbler Ridge school shooter’s transgender identity. We investigated Mark Carney’s “new world order” remarks, amplified Eva Chipiuk’s historic Alberta independence speech and exposed connections between Canadian university figures and funding for anti-ICE protests in the United States.

Most recently, after fighting for more than a year, we obtained and published a declassified, 13-page Canadian Forces Intelligence Command briefing on digital authoritarianism.

The assessment identifies digital IDs, central bank digital currencies, facial recognition, AI surveillance and smart-city technologies as tools authoritarian regimes can use to restrict speech, movement and commerce.

We published the original document so Canadians could examine the evidence for themselves.
