Hi! My name is Katlyn and thank you for stopping by!
This past February (2024), I ran my first runDisney race during the Princess Weekend. While I was extremely active growing up, always playing sports - I wouldn't really say I enjoyed running. Quite frankly, I was miserable if I was ever forced to go on a run and I really was not good at it.
My best friend, Hayley, and have always floated around the idea of doing a RunDisney race. It was another aspect of Disney that I wanted to explore, but the idea of having to participate in these timed races, made me super nervous.
I very soon realized that running is a mental game. I was sick of telling myself that I couldn't do something, when in reality, I wouldn't know until I tried. I really wanted to be able to challenge myself not only physically, but mentally as well. I wanted to set a goal up for me to accomplish, I wanted to challenge myself in a way I haven't before.
I ended up completing the 5k (with bronchitis!) and at the end was so surprised to even think I had more miles in me! I wanted to do it again, but wanted to go bigger.
That being said, I have signed up to do my first ever HALF MARATHON in November (of course with Hayley by my side). If you had told me this years ago, I would have laughed at the thought!
We also decided that just one half marathon wasn't enough - we also plan on running the 5k, 10k and the half marathon during Princess Weekend 2025.
Challenging myself and running has not only built up my confidence, but has boosted my mood and given me more of a clear mind. I want to be able to show my daughters that you can truly accomplish anything you set your mind to.
For Princess Weekend, we decided we really wanted to support a charity - so I'm grateful to say that we will be running FOR Hope Story and representing them in the 5k.
Hope Story is a group who provides resources, support, and hope to families whose child has received a Down syndrome diagnosis - so I am hoping to raise $550 for them.
I really am so excited to run for a charity that is looking to not only bring awareness, but bring all the support and love to families whose child has down syndrome.
