2025 Live Like Roo Foundation Marathon Team

As I prepare to live out my dream and race my first 26.2 miles at the Chicago Marathon in 2025, I am reaching out to you all with a mission. I have chosen to run for the Live Like Roo Foundation. My goal is to raise at least $2,100, but I hope to surpass that goal amount, bringing hope to families in need.

When I first discovered the Live Like Roo Foundation in the marathon's charity index, I felt an undeniable connection that running for them was meant to be. The name beautifully combines two things I cherish most in life: man's best friend (dogs) and Bonnaroo (not directly associated). This incredible foundation is dedicated to supporting families who face the heartbreaking reality of a cancer diagnosis in their beloved pets.

As a proud dog mom to Zorro and Cody, my heart aches at the thought of experiencing such a loss. Our dogs are not just pets; they are our children, our companions, and our source of joy. The bond we share with them is irreplaceable, and the thought of facing an illness alone is a heavy burden.

That is why I am inspired to run for Live Like Roo. This organization provides vital financial assistance to families who find themselves in difficult times with their pets. They offer a lifeline to those navigating the unthinkable. Knowing that this type of support is available brings such relief to so many families, allowing them to focus on cherishing the time they have with their furry friends.

Every step I take, and every mile I pass during my first marathon will be for Zorro, Cody, Halen, JoJo, Ava, Smokey, and all other dogs who have brought love and joy into our lives.

The Live Like Roo Foundation started in 2015 when a shelter dog named "Sisqo" captured the heart of Sarah, our Executive Director. When he was rescued and renamed "Roosevelt" (Roo) and undergoing a medical exam, they found cancer. It was terminal. He was given a bucket list and lived like a king for 6 months. Many people followed his journey and Sarah was inspired to help others in his honor. Since 2016, we have granted over $2.3 million dollars for pets and rescue animals with a cancer diagnosis and sent 5500 cancer care packages. We hope that everyone, sick or not, lives every day like it is your last. Live Like Roo.
