Goal
Our neighbors deserve quality bikes to ride, our community deserves affordable and sustainable bike repair options and mechanic education, and our planet deserves systems that get more people on bikes. And that's why we're here!
Every year we get over a bike a day out of the waste stream and into the hands of someone who needs it. Whether that's over a hundred folks on limited incomes who get a free bike from us, or nearly 300 individuals who get affordable bikes on a sliding scale to stretch their budget and get a better machine than they could otherwise afford--we're getting quality bikes to our Portland neighbors.
At our shop, we are working 7 days a week to provide affordable service to improve the bikes folks already own, utilizing used parts as much as possible. And we have reopened to volunteers to let folks learn as they contribute to our work and mission, and use those skills and our resources to maintain their own bikes.
And we are getting bikes, parts, and materials out of the waste stream. We get donations that we aren't able to fix--broken, too rusty, or not meant to last, we disassemble bikes and save what we can, recycle the metal, and save the rubber to recycle. These parts allow us to fix bikes with a minimal carbon footprint, and volunteer help allows us to keep this model efficient.
